Hand Paint Velvet Scarf Class

This class is appropriate for all art skill levels.

Students will be introduced to fiber-reactive dyes to create a luminous , vibrantly colored silk/rayon 9” x 42” oblong scarf. 

Students start with a white velvet scarf and may dye it whatever color they want.  We work on the back side of the scarf using a resist similar to painting regular silk. We apply fiber- reactive dyes that dye both the velvet rayon pile and the silk backing.

Different techniques will be applied to a stretched out scarf suspended on a PVC pipe frame including the application of fluid and liquid dye. 

Velvet scarves are soft cozy and elegant accessories for the mild Georgia winter and fall.

    • PROVIDED MATERIALS INCLUDE: Velvet scarf, dyes, support frames, mixing containers, brushes, required chemicals, steaming fixation process (done by instructor in her studio), reference ideas
